How CEOs can close the AI execution gap

ServiceNow · Sep 17, 2026 · video

Eight in ten CEOs are not happy with the progress of their AI investments. Richard Fleming, APAC AI Practice Lead at Bain and Company, explains why most organisations are confusing activity with commitment, and what it takes to close the execution gap. In conversation with Katrina Read, Senior Director Inspire Value at ServiceNow, Richard shares findings from Bain research showing that 85% of CEOs believe they are not executing well on AI. The root cause: a portfolio of isolated pilots with no commitment to the strategic domains that actually drive value. Real AI progress requires getting to strategy first. That means getting clear on ambition, identifying where to commit, and having leadership actively orchestrate across the business. Without that, pilots multiply and results stall. The Australia findings from the Enterprise AI Maturity Index point to the same pattern: ambition and investment are rising, but an execution gap remains.
